MINNEAPOLIS (March 29, 2014) — A ceremony and program of the 32nd Anniversary of Asian American Press Party went off with success and festivity last Saturday at Lucky Dragon Restaurant on Lake Street in Minneapolis.
Around 100 guests enjoyed a banquet dinner followed an exciting program. The evening was a seven hour reception, dinner and social dance.
Staring event of Reception people can visit the Book And Film Exhibition. The Jaws of History of Former Ambassador Bui Diem, The Ordinary people, Extraordinary Journeys of St. Paul Companies Leadership Initiatives and Document Film Hon Viet of Vietnam Film Club had been showed along with Asian AMerican Press and Nguoi Viet Minnesota.
The main program began with AAP Editor & Publisher Nghi Huynh, who introduces the digniataries and entertainment. He spoke about the fascinating history of the newspaper, and its origins as the Asian Business & Community News, a nonprofit magazine that he started with a small grant from his employer Control Data Corporation in the 1980s.
Mr. Christopher A. Dahlberg, Chair of St. Louis County Board of Commissioners, and a Candidate for U.S. Senator, said he appreciated the contributions of Asian American Press.
Mr. Tam Thanh Phan explained the importance of ethnic media, and the differences between
Asian American Press and the Star Tribune. He suggested that we cannot find the special news from the mainstream media and that there is still a purpose for ethnic newspapers.
Mr. Dennis Nguyen, a law Professor and the former candidate for Minnesota Secretary of State, siad the newspaper contributes to the success of the Asian American community.
The entertainment followed with a fashion show and lottery by Ms. Phuong Bui. The Lottery was very exciting to draw 5 winners for good items from Asian American Press.
The guests enjoyed the special foods from Lucky Dragon Restaurant and the Musical Band Song Tinh.
