ST. PAUL, Minn. (Dec. 12, 2018) — The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council on Dec. 11 awarded $302,454 to 62 organizations/projects in the first round of its FY 2019 Community Arts grant program.
The organizations and projects chosen demonstrate both strong artistic quality and a connection to a community. Funding is awarded in all seven of the Twin Cities Metro area counties.
The Community Arts grant program utilizes a block grant system to ensure funds are distributed broadly in the seven counties of MRAC’s service area. This grant program is made possible with funds from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Legacy Amendment.
The following is a list of this round’s grant recipients sorted by the county of activity that includes award amounts, project summaries, and links to the grantees’ websites when available. Please note that the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are separated from the surrounding suburban Hennepin and suburban Ramsey counties.

The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) serves nonprofit arts groups in the seven-county (Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties) metropolitan area of Minnesota with annualized operating expenses less than $400,000.

In FY 2018, MRAC received 884 organizational/group applications and awarded 464 grants totaling $3,460,670. This total includes three small payments for Arts Achievement Awards, as well as a $195,000 grant to VSA Minnesota for their role in re-granting ADA Access Improvement Fund grants for metro arts organizations, which resulted in 14 grants.

In addition, MRAC received 505 applications from individual artists in the Next Step Fund program and awarded 36 grants totaling $179,200 with a grant from The McKnight Foundation.

MRAC also offered 29 grant workshops for 307 participants, 38 Arts Management Trainings for 554 attendees, 27 panelist orientations to 241 panelists, and 4 visual arts exhibitions for the community.
