MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Buddhist Vihara cordially invites the public to attend its New Year Celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at City View School Auditorium, 3350 North 4th St., Minneapolis.
Enjoy this annual cultural event with your loved ones. Bring a Sri Lankan traditional dish to share with others. Guests are invited to wear Sri Lankan national dress.
Traditional New Year customs start with lighting of the oil lamp, singing national anthems and offering betel leaves to monks, parents and elders. A New Year Meal (pot-luck) will follow with a variety of dishes such as Kiribath, Lunu miris, Kavum, Kokis and many more.
Children’s performances will include Avurudu Kumari, singing, and group performances.
Traditional games and activities for children and adults include Kanamuttiya, Raban Geseema, Aliyata Ehe Tebeema, Kamba Adeema, music chair and many more.
Contributions are appreciated to cover the event expenses. Suggested donation per family $5 to $20.
