MINNEAPOLIS (March 22, 2017) — Global Minnesota is hosting two recipients of this year’s U.S. Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award. A reception will be held in their honor at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Minneapolis Club, 729 2nd Ave. S., Minneapolis, 55402.
The two include a Roman Catholic nun working in Syria who runs a school for traumatized children and teaches vocational skills to vulnerable women. The second is a Deputy Director of a women’s NGO in Iraq that helps survivors of gender-based violence, especially domestic violence, by offering shelter, training, protection, and legal services.
The annual U.S. Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award honors women around the globe who have exemplified exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for human rights, women’s equality, and social progress, often at great personal risk. The Minneapolis event is an opportunity to meet these extraordinary women and learn about the change they are implementing across the globe.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required online or by calling 612-625-1662 or emailing [email protected].
This event is produced in partnership with GHR Foundation and with support from GHR and the Katherine W. Merriam family.
