ST. PAUL, Minn. (Nov. 10, 2016) — A Community Conversation with Dr. Roy Wade, Jr. will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 in Founder’s Hall of Metropolitan State University, 700 7th St E, St Paul, MN 55106. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Wade will share research about how trauma is affecting Philadelphia’s urban population and how the city’s community-level systems are working to improve health outcomes. Stay for a one-hour Q&A session and conversation about how Philadelphia’s model can inform efforts to improve health and reduce disparities in the Twin Cities. Sam Simmons, leading expert on adversity and health in urban and African American communities, will facilitate the conversation.
Dr. Roy Wade, Jr. is a pediatrician from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia who specializes in the connection between adverse childhood experiences and urban issues such as poverty, violence and health problems. He is a co-creator of the Philadelphia Urban ACE Study.
Samuel Simmons is SAFE Families Manager at The Family Partnership, managing the Be More Project and Healing Generations, a culturally-specific relapse support program for African American men. He has over 25 years of experience as a behavioral consultant.
