Myanmar (Burma) film actor and director turned activist Mr. Kyaw Thu, will visit Minnesota from Oct. 3-10, 2016 to meet local diverse communities from Burma and interested Minnesotans.

Kyaw Thu is the founding director of Free Funeral Service Society after a successful career as a leading Burmese movie actor and director in the 1980s and 1990s. Since early 2000, the 57 year-old political and social icon has been devoting much time to do social work for the financially less fortunate population of Burma. He is also known for being a vocal critic of the military regime in Burma.

In 2001 Kyaw Thu founded the Free Funeral Service Society, which provides free funeral services for the needy regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.He also runs charity clinics where free healthcare for the needy is provided by volunteer doctors and nurses.

Diverse communities from Burma currently residing in Minnesota are sponsoring his visit to the Twin Cities. Kyaw Thu is well known and respected by both Burmese and other ethnic communities of Burma due to his compassionate and social activities, devotion and commitments to support the needy people of Burma.

During his visit, he will meet with community members who are originally from Burma. Tentatively there are two events scheduled. These events are open to the public and admission is free.

‘’Walking a Fine Line’’ A 55 minute documentary film will be screened at the events. It is a remarkable story of a leading Burmese movie actor/ director turned activist and community leader. Once absorbed in his own career, Kyaw Thu was inspired to devote himself to improving the lives of others. After screening, Kyaw Thu will answer questions and engage with audience on his work, experiences and knowledge.

Tentative Schedule of Kyaw Thu includes a meeting with diverse communities from Burma on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 from 2 to 5 p.m. at McDonough Community Center, St Paul, 1544 Timberlake Rd, St Paul, MN 55117. Admission is free and the event is open to Public.

Kyaw Thu will hold a second public community meeting on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 499 Wacouta St., downtown St Paul, MN 55101. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
