ST. PAUL, Minn. (Aug. 16, 2016) — The Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans (“the Council”) is developing a new strategic plan to guide our work into the future.
To prepare for this, we are inviting you to talk with us about the direction and long-term objectives for the Council over the next four years. The input we receive from members of the community like you will be critical as we identify a vision, priorities, and strategies to carry out our legislatively mandated mission:
- To advise the Minnesota Legislature and the Governor on issues of importance to Asian Pacific Minnesotans;
- To advocate on behalf of the community on these issues; and
- To serve as the bridge for and between Asian Pacific Minnesotans and non-Asian Pacific Minnesotans.
The Council will host five community forums altogether: three in the Twin Cities; one in southwest Minnesota; and another in northern Minnesota. All five forums will be led by a facilitator, whose job will be to ensure that community members’ voices are heard and to prepare a report summarizing themes from these meetings. Members of the Council board will attend each forum to listen, as well.
We hope that you will not only participate, but be candid in sharing your comments so that we gain a clear understanding of your hopes and concerns. The Council’s ability to effectively advise, advocate, and facilitate relationships between Minnesota’s Asian Pacific communities and state government depends largely on your ongoing engagement with the Council. Lending your voice to these important strategic planning forums is one way you can help the Council to more effectively represent our communities.
