BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (Feb. 8, 2016) — North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) will continue its yearlong 50th anniversary celebration by hosting a Liberal Arts and Global Education Showcase on Feb. 11. The event will run from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Center for Business and Technology Grand Hall, 7411 85th Avenue North Brooklyn Park, MN 55445.
“We are really excited to showcase our innovative curriculum and dedicated faculty to the community,” said Liberal Arts Dean Michael Dueñes. “We want to show people how a liberal arts education can prepare someone to successfully weather the changes of family, work and life.”
The showcase format is an open-house style so attendees will have the freedom to explore exhibits at their own pace. These exhibits focus on areas of study at NHCC with faculty on-hand to provide insight. Some of these areas include philosophy, anthropology, economics, political science, cultural studies, and sociology, among others.
“We want to let people’s interests guide them during the event,” said Dueñes. “This open-house style will provide the community with full access to our faculty and top-notch educational programs.”
One unique exhibit will involve NHCC instructor Mark Larsen and his real-life demonstrations of Aikido, a modern form of Martial Arts. Larsen will provide everyday applications of Aikido and also detail its philosophy and origins.
Another feature will be public readings from English students and faculty from their very own published works. NHCC will also highlight its nationally recognized publications, Northern Light, Realities and Under Construction.
Free food and drink will be available as well as a photo booth.
