About our Guests:

Dr. Richard M. Lee (left) is Professor of Psychology and Asian American Studies at the University of Minnesota. He has studied Asian American families and youth for 20 years. Dr. Lee is internationally known for his scholarship on international adoption from South Korea. His current research interests focus on the psychology of diaspora and the importance of understanding family ancestry.
Hyon Kim (right) is the founder and president of Freedom for North Korean Refugees of Minnesota and a Twin Cities entrepreneur whose interest in North Korean refugees comes out of her personal life story. Like many other Korean Americans, Hyon comes from a family that was divided when Korea was divided into north and south after World War II, a condition that was supposed to be temporary but is still in place today. She has worked as a volunteer with refugees from many countries in local outreach efforts, and would like Minnesota to one day become a welcoming home for North Korean refugees as well.

Freedom for North Korean Refugees Minnesota is a Minnesota based non-profit organization working toward the safe and humane resettlement of North Korean refugees in the United States. Freedom for North Korean Refugees Minnesota is pioneering an initiative to educate about the plight of North Korean refugees and to promote relationships and policies that provide for safe, welcoming, and expedite settlement in the United States. For more information, visitwww.freedomrefugeesmn.org.
