MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 11, 2016) — Vocalosity, an all-new touring a cappella ensemble, will present its program Vocalosity: The Aca-Perfect Concert Experience at Orchestra Hall on Sunday, 7 p.m., Jan. 31, 2016 at 1111 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
From the creative mind of Deke Sharon, vocal producer for Pitch Perfect and NBC’s The Sing-Off, this event presents a live concert experience in which 12 singers come together in multiple combinations to harmonize and delight on everything from ancient church music to gospel and from classic harmonies to the hottest new hits.
In addition, the University of Minnesota ensemble 7Days A Cappella has been named the Minnesota winner of Vocalosity’s “Aca-Performance of a Lifetime” Contest, and will sing onstage as the opening act for the Vocalosity concert on January 31. Several ensembles that participated in the contest were also selected to sing in the lobby of Orchestra Hall before this concert as part of the Minnesota Orchestra’s OH+ concert enhancement program.
Tickets are priced from $25 to $60. Tickets are available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release. The Minnesota Orchestra does not perform on this program.
Vocalosity came together through the passion of music director and artistic producer Deke Sharon, and the producing team of Work Light Productions and IMG Artists. Sharon, called the “father of contemporary a cappella,” has built a career in a cappella as a singer, arranger, director and producer. Vocalosity is the culmination of everything he has learned over the past 20 years in this genre.
“Over the past few years, a cappella has grown from what was once considered a stuffy Ivy League activity to a pop culture phenomenon beloved by people of all ages,” says Sharon, “Vocalosity is my dream team, an all-star ensemble of diverse young singers each with a unique style and personality. Most vocal groups aspire to create one sound and style, homogenizing the character of their singers, but this group is the exact opposite, weaving a variety of tapestries from different combinations of voices and characters.”
Vocalosity debuts in January 2016 and will embark on a 30-plus city national tour. Universal Music Classics will release Vocalosity’s debut album on January 15, 2016 to coincide with the tour launch. For more information, visit vocalosityontour.com.
