The Council on Asian-Pacific Minnesotans in partnership with Hmong Arts Connection invites the community to attend the Paj Ntaub (Flower Cloth) event on Dec. 27, 2010, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rondo Library, 461 N. Dale Street in St. Paul. This event is free and everyone is welcome.
Paj ntaub is a textile art traditionally practiced by Hmong people. It involves embroidery in applique, reverse applique and batik designs that are used to decorate clothing and accessories. Paj ntaub has also expanded to include “story cloths,” stitched stories often telling of the Hmong exodus from Laos to Thailand and even to the United States.
Paj ntaub artist Yer Yang will speak on the history and cultural significance of the art form as well as teach participants how to craft their own flower cloths to take home.
