St. Paul, Minn. (November 5, 2010) – For twenty years, Hmong American Partnership has been providing service to the Hmong, refugee and other communities in the areas of education, training, Elder services, employment, and youth and family services. HAP is now offering programs to assist the Hmong and refugee communities with a board range of services concerned with housing. HAP was approved as a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-certified housing counseling agency earlier this year.

HAP has employed a full-time, bilingual Housing Counselor to provide services to Hmong- and English-speaking community members through the following programs: Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Counseling and Education (workshops, credit education); Foreclosure Counseling and Education (one-to-one sessions with a certified housing counselor); Rental Counseling and Education (tenant rights and responsibilities, referral to community resources and programs); and Refugee Supportive Housing Network Case Management (program assistance for short-term rental needs and assistance with self-sufficiency barriers to obtain sustainable housing).

HAP also announced its recent receipt of Homeownership Education, Counseling, and Training funding to further its efforts in foreclosure prevention counseling, pre-purchase counseling and in providing educational workshops for first-time homebuyers.

“We look forward to working closely with HECAT in assisting our neighbors and friends in the community,” says Sheng Lee, HAP Director of Housing and Economic Development.

HAP is partnering with a wide variety of agencies to expand the outreach and support services they provide. For more information about any of HAP’s housing services, please contact Song Vue, Housing Counselor, at 612-377-6482, Extension 200 or [email protected]. www.hmong.org
