Wu Yi, an exchange student from China at Hamline University, is working as an intern for Asian American Press. Ms. Wu, who has chosen the English name “Mao”, is a third-year student of International journalism at United International College in Zhuhai, China.
As an exchange student at Hamline University through the Certificate International Journalism Program, Wu said to experience American life is just as, if not more important than what she could gather from reading her text books.
With just five months in America, Wu said her trip is about appreciating all the valuable lessons of life and the culture in America by being here. She said it fits the spirit of the old Chinese idiom, ‘It is better to travel 10,000 miles than to read 10,000 books’.
“I am eager to discover and learn about the differences between these two powerful countries,” said Wu. “For I always believe that the very truth is dug out by comparison. Asian American Press is the exact place for me to achieve my goal.”
Wu is a reporter for her local Zhujiang Newspaper, a student reporter for a college news agency and an editor in college radio. She has two major scholarships, and is Journalism Student Association.
She is a second grade national swimmer and in her spare time likes to volunteer for her college charity club, teach immigrant children, sing and practice indoor rock climbing.
