The Chinese American Academic & Professional Association in Minnesota will hold its 2010 Annual Conference on the theme, “Rising Above Uncertain Times” on September 25, 2010, from noon until 9:00 p.m. at Jun Bo Chinese Restaurant, 7717 Nicollet Avenue, Richfield, MN 55423. Registration starts at noon with opening remarks at 1:00 p.m.
The presentations that follow include “Make Your Heart Smile” by Jon Pojasek (Presenting in English), a personal trainer, life coach, and motivational speaker, with a smile.
Pojasek is often heard saying that “Life is short and the time is right to start writing your book of ife and happiness ” He will share his passion and experiences with some simple strategies to help train and condition yourself to live life to the fullest.
The Keynote Speaker is Kao Kalia Yang, who will delver on the topic of “A Life with Few Options (Presenting in English).”
Kao Kalia Yang is a writer from the Hmong community. Her first book is “The Latehomecomer: a Hmong family memoir” is the first book to have ever won two Minnesota book awards as well as nine other national awards in literature. Currently a writer-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, she is a graduate of Carleton college and Columbia University in New York City.
Following an afternoon coffee break, Dr. Gary Kiekhoefer will speak on the topic, “Knowing Chiropractic Care (Presenting in English).” He will give an overview of the philosophy and science of chiropractic, and show how it fits into the wellness paradigm.
The presentation is designed to give attendees a basic understanding of how the body functions, and how interference to the nervous systems affects health, and some ways to improve health starting today.
Paul J. Gam will follow on the topic, “Uncertainty Here; Opportunities There – Looking at China from a Medical Technology Perspective (Presenting in English).”
Gam is Vice President of International Development at St. Jude Medical, Inc., a Fortune 500 medical technology company based in St. Paul. He leads mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, and other international business development activities.
Gam has been the interim Managing Director and General Manager for Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong; and started the wholly-owned subsidiary in China, for which he continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.
The evening dinner of authentic Chinese cuisine will follow at 6:00 p.m. An open discussion on the topic “Rising Above Uncertain Times” will follow from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
