Washington, D.C. (August 11, 2010) – The Organization of Chinese Americans, a national organization with 80 chapters and affiliates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, announced Wedensday the 10 winners of the AXA- Achievement Scholarship. The scholarship awards $2,000 to high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership ability, and commitment to community service and will be attending an institution of higher learning this fall.  Since 2004, the scholarship has awarded 64 scholarships for a total amount of $128,000.

Faith Frank, president of the AXA Foundation, said the scholarship was established to help students prepare for the challenging the road to college.

“OCA-AXA Achievement Scholarship winners are young people who have accomplished something special, who show the determination to set and reach goals,” said Frank.

OCA National President Ken Lee, said that with the support of the AXA Foundation, OCA is able to provide necessary assistance to these hardworking, high-achieving students who are dedicated to improving their communities.

“OCA wishes the scholarship recipients success in college and beyond,” said Lee.

The recipients of the OCA-AXA Achievement Scholarship include: Valerie Biswas, UC-Irvine; Muchi He, University of Pennsylvania; Theara Lanh, Penn State–Park; Robbin Lee, U-Maryland, Baltimore County; Sarah Luo, UC-Berkeley; Marie-Estelle Pham, U-Maryland, College Park; Kaela Singleton, Agnes Scott College; Emily Tian, Stanford; My-Linh Tranh, U-Washington; Kenny Yu, Harvard.
