The Indian Music Society of Minnesota celebrates its 30th year of bringing the best in Indian classical music to Minnesota with an exciting Fall 2010 Season lineup. The season begins with a local treasure, Nirmala Rajsekar, in concert on Sunday, September 12, 2010, 5:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall of St. Catherine University, 2004 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105.
Rajsekar is described as an internationally renowned carnatic vocalist and veena virtuoso, who transcends musical boundaries through classical Indian collaborations with jazz, traditional Chinese and other Western musical genres including a project with American poet Robert Bly.
For this concert Rajsekar will be accompanied by three accomplished artists in their own right, violinist Sri.K.V.S. Vinay, ghatam musician Sri. Balaji Chandran, and mridangam musician Sri. Tanjore K. Murugaboopathi.
Rajsekar is the first Indian classical musician to be named a Bush artistic fellow by the Bush Foundation. She began performing as a solo veena player and vocalist at age 13, and has since performed, composed and taught for nearly three decades.
Now based in the Twin Cities, Rajsekar continues performing worldwide including London, Bristol, Berne, Zurich, Bombay, New Delhi, Chennai, New York, Cleveland, Madison and Berkeley.
Rajsekar was honored by Indian Radio and Television the prestigious ‘A Grade ranking artist’ in 1990. She is listed in the BBC Library of World Albums, and hailed by Indian music groups for her ‘invaluable contributions to the world’ and given the title ‘keeper of the pure tone’ and ‘ the beacon light of veena’.

The Malladi Brothers (carnatic vocalis), with B.U. Ganesh Prasad (violin) and Patri Satishkumar (mridangam) will perform on October 17, 2010, 5:00 p.m. in the Nath Auditorium of the Hindu Mandir Temple, 10530 Troy Lane North, Maple Grove, MN 55311. (hindumandirmn.org)

The 15th Annual Aradhana of Twin Cities Artists will be held on November 13, 2010 at Hindu Mandir Auditorium.
