Japan America Society of Minnesota presents a Lantern Lighting Pre-Festival Social and Bon Odori Workshop that is open to the public on Monday, July 26, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 2201 1st Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404-3402.

A grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, has allowed JASM to hold this community and volunteer social as community outreach to talk about the Minnesota Bon Odori and how to contribute to the Como Lantern Lighting Festival on Sunday, August 15, 2010. Please RSVP for the event by Thursday, July 22, 2010.

Enjoy sushi and light refreshments provided by JASM. Artists from the Minnesota Bon Odori festival dance group will show you the dance moves to the traditional Japanese dance which you can participate in at the Lantern Lighting Festival. Registered volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend the pre-festival orientation.

For those interested in volunteering at the Lantern Lighting Festival, the social will be a great way to find out how you can contribute and get a preview of this popular festival that draws over 6,000 individuals annually.
