Master Lei Yixin, commissioned artist for the Martin Luther King, Jr. sculpture to be constructed in the National Mall of Washington DC, and the “Meditation” sculpture at Phalen Lake Park, will have work included in a special exhibition – “Harmonious Hunan in Painting, Calligraphy and Photography.”
The exhibition, designed as Art from Saint Paul’s Sister City Changsha, China, opened July 8, and will run through its Closing Reception Sunday, July 18, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at CVA Gallery, 173 Western Avenue, St. Paul.
Led by Master Lei, six of China’s national renowned artists, and twenty-two photographers will present their award winning art works at the CVA Gallery. The featured artists include Lei Yixin, He Manzong, Zhu Xunde, Zhang Liping, Hu Liwei and Cao Mingqiu.
Master Lei Yixin, a specialist who enjoys the special government allowance granted by the State Council, is director of Chinese Sculpture Association, a member of National City Sculpture Association and vice-president of Artists Association of Hunan Province. He is also the vice-dean of Painting and Calligraphy Academic Institute, dean of Sculpture Institute of Hunan Province and a well know state-first-class artist.
This award winning artist created a grand stone sculpture in 2006, named Reveries, for Minnesota Rocks! An international stone carving event on the lawn of St. Paul College.
The College of Visual Arts is a private, accredited, four-year college of art and design offering a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in fine arts, graphic design, illustration, interdisciplinary design studies, and photography. Founded in 1924, the college is located in the thriving urban residential areas of historic Summit Avenue and Ramsey Hill in St. Paul.
The exhibition is in partnership with the Saint Paul Mayors Office, College of Visual Arts, Public Art Saint Paul, and US-China Peoples Friendship Association of Minnesota.
