Shades of Yellow, a non-profit organization located in St Paul, MN that serves the Hmong LGBTQ community for Social Justice, will showcase its talent from the community and allies at the Twin Cities Pride Festival, June 26-27, 2010 at Loring Park, 1382 Willow Street, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
SOY is expanding its presence at the The Twin Cities Pride Festival beyond the ordinary informational booth. For the first time, Mr. SOY 2010 will be marching in the Parade, taking place on Sunday, June 27th at 11 a.m. along Hennepin Avenue. There are four stage areas and Shades of Yellow will feature Hmong Queer Artists and allies on the Rainbow Stage from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the segment called “Txuj Ci.” This is an extension of SOY’s “Txuj Ci Showcase” which was originally produced by SOY in collaboration with the GLBTA Programs Office at the U of M earlier this year to celebrate Hmong queer artists and allies.
Performance slots are still available and SOY is calling out all artists who would like to contribute their talent to this first time ever stage feature at Pride. It is a chance to make history in one of the largest Midwest LBGT events. SOY recognizes that its mission to “support a community of empowered Hmong LGBTQ to create positive cultural and social changes that enhance their lives and communities,” also requires allies of all backgrounds to achieve this.
Artists do not have to be LGBT/Queer and/or Hmong to perform. SOY welcomes all art forms; visual, performance and entertainment proposals. They are inviting Hmong Queer artists and all others who want to support SOY in donating their time and talent. Artists are requested to arrange set material of 10 to 15 minutes. Visual artists may showcase during the entire timeframe.
