U.S. Navy Reservist Hai Nguyen, of Minneapolis, was recently selected for promotion to the rank of commander. He is assigned to the Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, VA. His parents, Khap and Dinh Nguyen, also live in Minneapolis.

FORT BELVOIR, Va. (June 12, 2010) – Minneapolis resident and Navy reservist Hai T. Nguyen has been selected for promotion to the rank of commander. A Navy supply corps officer, he is assigned as a reservist to the Defense Reutilization Team-Salt Lake City, Utah, as the executive officer. The unit is part of the Defense Logistics Agency’s Joint Reserve Force, at Fort Belvoir, Va.

The promotion board for commander meets once a year and announced its results at the end of May. Nguyen received word that he was selected, although his pin-on date to assume the rank has not yet been determined, but will be during Fiscal Year 2011.

“I’m extremely honored and grateful to be selected for promotion,” said Nguyen, who has served in the Navy for 14 years.

The son of Khap and Dinh Nguyen, also of Minneapolis, the commander is a 1988 graduate of Southwest High School in Minneapolis. He earned his Bachelor of Science in applied aeronautical science in 2004 from the University of North Dakota-Grand Forks.

Nguyen and his wife, Kathy, have a daughter, Madilyn. On the civilian side, he is a Delta Connection airline pilot for Mesaba Airlines.
