Minnesota Asian/American Health Coalition will hold its 5th Asian Health Data Summit, “Finding Community in Data”, an event to highlight local and national efforts to encourage greater transparency and access to data, along with enacting innovation with regard to compiling ethnic and racial data for healthcare and social services to use in their efforts to eliminate disparities.

The public is welcome to attend the event on June 3, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lao Family Community of Minnesota, 320 W University Avenue, St. Paul.

Winston Wong, M.D., M.S., the Medical Director of Community Benefit at the Keiser Permanente will deliver a keynote address.

The meeting will focus on how promising system-level changes in the handling and sharing of data present opportunities for more meaningful information to support the efforts and missions of not only state and county health and social agencies but also the local APIA community organizations and the people they serve.

The event is free but please register to help prepare materials and refreshments to MA/AHC at 612-455-0208 or [email protected]

The event is sponsored by Hmong American Partnership, Hennepin County Office of Multi-Cultural Services, and University of Minnesota Center for Health Equity.

MA/AHC is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 with a mission to advocate for the health and well-being of Asian/American and Pacific Islander communities in Minnesota. It has since helped to develop strategies to increase public and private sector involvement in improving the health of APIA communities.

Some of these efforts have been to analyze data collection practices to make recommendations and to show the need for improved methods for  better research, data collection and utilization. This work has involved staff of federal, state and local government and community organizations.

MA/AHC is located in the CAPI Building, 3702 East Lake Street, Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55406.
