MIAMI (U.S. ASIAN WIRE – May 13, 2010) – Miami commercial litigation attorney Lisa Hu Barquist received a certificate of appreciation May 12, 2010, on behalf of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, the Board of County Commissioners, and the residents of Miami-Dade County, for her volunteer service and her valuable contributions to the South Florida Asian community.

Hu Barquist is Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade Asian American Advisory Board, which serves as a liaison between the Asian community and Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners.

As an attorney with Payton & Associates LLC, a Miami commercial litigation firm, Hu Barquist represents corporate and individual clients in commercial litigation, business transactions, and real estate.  An experienced trial lawyer, Lisa has been practicing law for 21 years. Prior to joining Payton & Associates, she was principal of her law firm, Hu Barquist & Associates P.A., where she represented U.S. and Chinese clients in complex commercial transactional and litigation matters; special counsel to Duane Morris LLP; and a federal prosecutor who litigated health care fraud and narcotics cases on behalf of the United States in the Southern District of Florida and Western District of New York.

Born in Taiwan, Hu Barquist is fluent in spoken Mandarin Chinese. She serves as Vice Chair of the Miami Dade County Asian Advisory Board, Director and Officer of the Florida China Chamber of Commerce, and Member of the Taiwan Business Association and Chinese Cultural Foundation.

Hu Barquist was awarded her J.D. in 1989 from the University of Southern California Law Center, where she was editor of the Law Review; and her B.A. from Yale University in 1983, where she was elected Regent to Yale College Council.

A member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association-Southeast, Hu Barquist was admitted to practice in State and Federal Courts in California, New York, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
