Unit Collective event Indira Addington is the Producing Playwright for the April Unit Collective and with the theme, “Resistance,” the Minneapolis Madness event will feature Dipankar Mukherjee and Meena Natarajan, co-directors of Pangea World Theatre as distinguished guest artists for a performance and post theater chat April 20, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Playwrights’ Center, 2301 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis.
“Madness” performances are free and open to the public and have food. The Unit Collective is an independent collective of emerging playwrights of color and theater artists devoted to pushing the development of new work beyond the conventional parameters of play development such as sit down readings and workshops. Reading Madness begins early in the month with a different writer of the Unit Collective selecting a theme, style, or concept for the upcoming production. Each writer must then write a five to ten minute play based upon that theme, style or concept.
Each play is written during that monthly time span and then cast, and rehearsed throughout the day of the performance for the script-in-hand production presented before an enthusiastic audience. Kristoffer Diaz and Reginald Edmund co-founded the Unit Collective, with members, Anton Jones, May Lee Yang, Jessica Huang, Lorena Duarte, Indira Addington, Joe Luis Cedillo, Juma Essie and Eric Pogi Sumangil.
