Asian Pacific Americans for Progress, a national network of progressive Asian Americans and allies, will host its National AAPI House Party, a nationwide conference call on May 2, 2010 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. CST.Kiran Ahuja, the new Executive Director for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders will be the featured guest speaker. Other speakers will include Kalpen Modi, associate director, White House Office of Public Engagement; Congressman Mike Honda (CA-15), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus; Ami Bera, a candidate for U.S. Congress in California’s 3rd District; and Marissa Graciosa, Director of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement.

“It should be a really informative call on what the White House, Congress and grassroots folks are doing to advance our community,” said Curtis Chin, an APAP board member, who recently visited Minneapolis to meet with a local group interested in forming a Minnesota chapter. “Please help spread the word and let me know if anyone is interested in hosting a party in Minnesota.”

The event cosponsors include the United States Student Association – National Asian Pacific American Student Caucus, and Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum.

Consider hosting a party. It’s easy. Just gather 12-20 friends, family members or co-workers and call into the conference call. Listen in as each guest speak for a few minutes and then will take a question or two from the hosts and listeners. APAP then encourages the national party groups to discuss issues important to them and to write up a report and post it on the APAP website with pictures to make a record of what AAPI’s around the country are talking about.

APAP will submit a report of the meetings and feedback to the Obama Administration.
