The Center for Hmong Studies is holding its Third International Conference on Hmong Studies entitled: Hmong Global Identities in the 2lst Century on April 9-11, 2010 at Concordia University, 275 Syndicate Street N, St Paul, Minnesota.2010 marks the 35th year anniversary of the Hmong resettlement after the end of the Vietnam War. The conference will present research and discussions on current issues impacting the worldwide Hmong community and an evening banquet program.
The banquet program will feature former Ambassador Lionel Rosenblatt, who created the refugee program in Thailand soon after the Vietnam War, which allowed over 150,000 Hmong refugees to settle in the United States. Colonel Bill Lair, formerly with the United States Central Intelligence Agency, who assisted in recruiting the Hmong to fight the Secret War of Laos will also serve as one of the keynote speaker for the banquet.
The Center for Hmong Studies anticipates up to 1,000 attendees from around the world. The participants of the conference will include local, national and international scholars as well as college students and government officials.
The mission of the Center for Hmong Studies is to promote the educational and cultural advancement of the Hmong community across the world. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for emerging and established scholars to share their research on Hmong related topics, to inspire and motivate students to engage in scholarly research, to recognize distinguished scholars for their work in the field of Hmong Studies and to facilitate application of research into practical uses in business and organizations.
