SAN FRANCISCO (March 29, 2010) – The Chinese American Citizens Alliance, established in 1895, and among the oldest civil rights organizations in the United States, is mourning the sudden loss of its fraternal brother and national Grand Treasurer, Herbert H. Gee who reportedly passed away in San Francisco on March 21, 2010.
Gee is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Clarice, two grandchildren, Christian and Cedric, a brother, Albert F. Gee and sister, Sylvia A. Fong and several nieces and nephews.
Gee was a member of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance for over 36 years, and held most every leadership position and was a past president of the San Francisco Lodge before proceeding to the national Grand Lodge where he served for as Grand Treasurer for over 13 years.
CACA states that Gee was known to pay attention to the strictest details of compliance and conformance to the spirit and letter of the Internal Revenue Code, and shared his time, knowledge and expertise with everyone who asked for it. His spouse, Virginia, continues to serve the Alliance as the Executive Vice-President.
Gee was a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He subsequently became a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and is said to have actively planned and participated in many celebrations and recognitions for veterans and active service members.
Gee held accounting, finance and taxation degree from San Francisco State University and the Golden Gate University School of Taxation. His service included 40 years with the U.S. Treasury Department at the Internal Revenue Service as an Appeals Hearing Officer, where he resolved tax dispute issues with both Fortune 500 companies and individual taxpayers.
He was honored numerous times with Treasury Department awards in recognition and appreciation for noteworthy contributions in several key service areas. He later served as a tax consultant and became a Registered Enrolled Agent where he provided tax advice.
Demonstrating his diversity of service in the public and community sectors, he received judicial appointments to San Francisco City and County Civil Grand Juries as well as serving on the Board of the St. Mary’s Chinese Schools and Center.
