ST. PAUL (Feb. 7, 2010) – The Landmark Center Urban Expedition: Korea! was held Sunday, as a free, public event for the public to experience the culture of Korea and meet the Korean and Korean adoptee community of Minnesota.
The Shinparam Korean Drum Team performed twice. The first was a Samdo Samulnori, or seated drum performance. The second was a Pusan Nongak drum dance, which included marching around before taking the stage for more choreography while drumming.
Other main stage entertainment included the Mu Gung Hwa Dance Academy, the students of the Kukkiwon Taekwondo demonstration team.
Around the performances were several community booths with cultural and kids activities. Participating organizations included Korean Service Center, Korean Adoptees Ministry Center, Korean Institute of Minnesota, Children’s Home & Family Services, Shinparam, Korean Quarterly, and Concordia Language Village.
Other booths present included the Haillie Q. Brown Community Center’s Food Shelf staff, including Bao Xiong, coordinator, and Cody Her, assistant. They are a Frogtown-Midway area food shelf that is open to everyone and takes donations of food and clothing.
Kate Blessing, an events planner with Children’s Home & Family Services, was present to talk about their adoption support services and other programs.
The event was sponsored by Landmark Center, Parent, Travelers, and Ramsey County.
