NEW YORK (Oct. 31, 2014) — Previews of “Straight White Men” start Friday at The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003.
Written and directed by Young Jean Lee, “Straight White Men” will run Nov. 7 through Dec. 7, 2014. The cast features Austin Pendleton, Pete Simpson, James Stanley, and Gary Wilmes. The story begins as Ed and his three adult sons come together to celebrate Christmas. They enjoy cheerful trash-talking, pranks, and takeout Chinese. Then they confront a problem that even being a happy family can’t solve: when identity matters, and privilege is problematic, what is the value of being a straight white man?

It was commissioned by the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University, Center Theater Group (Los Angeles), Steirischer Herbst Festival (Graz), Les Spectacles Vivants – Centre Pompidou (Paris), Festival d’Automne à Paris, and the Public Theater (New York), with special thanks to Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin).
