WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 20, 2014) — Recently postcards in various languages were mailed out to 150,000 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) households in VA, FL, MN, NV, TX, AZ, RI, UT and WA. This past week and for the next 16 days, our APIAVote local partners will be making phone calls and canvassing local neighborhoods to ensure that AAPI voters have the tools to cast their vote.
AAPI voters have much at stake in this year’s elections and can play an influential base of voters when we turnout.
When looking at Congressional districts, there are:
• 10 where AAPIS account for more than 25 percent of the citizen voting age population (CVAP)
• 35 districts where they account for between 10-25 percent and
• 58 districts where they account for between 5-10 percent.
Yet, in a recent AAPI Vote poll of Asian American voters, over 27 percent of Asian American voters surveyed were undecided on which Congressional candidate to support. At the same time, 60 percent reported that they were absolutely certain to turnout for the midterm elections.
Help AAPI Vote make a difference in this year’s elections. Bring your friends and join us by volunteering in your state to assist in nonpartisan phone banking or door knocking operations. We promise you an energizing experience and we will feed you well at the same time.
