Now that the World Health Organization has declared that bacon, hot dogs, and other processed meats cause cancer, and that red meat, including beef, pork, and lamb, is probably carcinogenic as well, many people will be looking to try more tasty vegan meals.
Vegan foods are not only cholesterol-free, they tend to be rich in phytochemicals, which knock out carcinogens and fight inflammation. Researchers have found that people who eat plant-based meals are between 25 and 50 percent less likely to suffer from cancer, even after controlling for other factors, such as smoking. Scientists from the Bremen Institute for Prevention Research and Social Medicine and the German Cancer Research Center have even noted that “[t]he relationship between a vegetarian and fiber-rich diet and a decreased risk for colon cancer has been reported in many studies.”
So, if you’re concerned about cancer and other health problems—not to mention cruelty to animals and environmental destruction—opt for tasty vegan foods. See www.PETA.org for more information and free vegan recipes and product suggestions.
