We all know about the makeovers that send us to buy creams, lotions, and make-up. We know about the diet books that that we believe in enough to skip our favorite foods for a few days. It’s time for a different kind of change! Here are the transcending factors that can remake your look without buying a product or losing a pound.
Renewal – When you are rested, your skin has a certain glow, your step has a certain buoyancy and you move more easily from work to play to love, without wondering if you are up to it. Sleep restores your skin, your hair, your posture and your emotions. If you have any trouble sleeping, try no caffeine after lunch, no work or stressful phone calls after 7:00 pm, and going to bed at the same time every night.
Relaxation – You can take years off your expression when you relax – let go of stress, and you are poised to enjoy your experience instead of shielding yourself from another encounter. If you find yourself bristling and unable to relax, cultivate the way that is right for you – a massage, a quiet walk in the woods, a challenging run with a friend, a soak in a hot tub, a weekend away with your sweetie.
Receptivity – like curiosity, helps us to listen and open up. If you are on overdrive, it is difficult to take in anything else…. You find yourself shielded from new ideas, experiences and people. Go through your schedule and reduce your commitments, so you can be present and fresh for your new experiences.
Recognize – and acknowledge the great things in your life. Many people are tuned in to what is wrong and lacking in their lives. They forget to see their own good fortune. Gratitude is a tremendous gift that each of us can tap into.
Release – If you have a huge issue in your life that dominates everything else, get the help you need to face it, whether it is past abuse, addiction, a crippling relationship, or your own resistance to the way things actually are. I remember the day years ago when my horoscope said: Run in fear and the tigers will chase you down and devour you. Face them and they will shrink in front of your eyes. It is true. The power that our fears and addictions have over us can be overcome. It’s up to each of us to decide to face them head on.
