MINNEAPOLIS (April 21, 2015) — Honoring Choices Minnesota, a public health initiative of the Twin Cities Medical Society, is pleased to announce a new “Voices of Advance Care Planning” three-language video education resource for Minnesota healthcare systems, clinics, and diverse multicultural communities.
Advance Care Planning (ACP) is the process of introducing, discussing, and documenting health care choices to guide treatment if you are unable to speak for yourself. Honoring Choices Minnesota is a statewide innovator to make ACP the standard of care for all Minnesotans – and to ensure health care choices are honored.
For many years, Minnesota healthcare professionals, patients, families, and community members have noticed the significant gap in culturally sensitive ACP education tools for multicultural populations. This new series of videos seeks to significantly reduce that gap by providing user-friendly “shorts” (short informational videos) in Spanish, Hmong and Somali languages.
These videos were developed by leaders of Latino, Hmong and Somali communities to address culturally sensitive healthcare wishes. To watch video trailers, order DVDs, and learn about the project, visitwww.HonoringChoices.org and click on the “Voices of Advance Care Planning” image.
Whether you are a healthcare professional, a healthcare consumer, or caregiver, these new multicultural education resources will help you to begin the important Advance Care Planning discussion.
