The Recovery Church, Minnesota Recovery Connection and Hazelden present Dr. Joseph Lee as the keynote for the Recovery Speaker Series on July 1, 2014, at 7 p.m., at The Recovery Church, 253 State St., St. Paul, MN 55107. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Joseph Lee is the Medical Director of the Youth Continuum at Hazelden. He will speak on the topic of “Neuropsychological Function of Spirituality in Youth with Addiction.”
Young people in early recovery or treatment struggle with conceptualizing spirituality in a functional way. This can create barriers for treatment engagement.
This talk is aimed at explaining the functional elements of spirituality, starting with why spirituality is critical for those predisposed to addiction. Lee will take the listners on a journey from neurodevelopmental differences in those predisposed to addiction and translate the science in a meaningful way that will resonate with recovery principles.
Margaret Thompson, a Family Parent Professional at Hazelden, will be the Aug. 5 speaker at the same time and location. She will speak on the topic, “The Evolution of Monkey Chatter — or how much weight we give our incessant thoughts.
Dr. Roger Watts, Assistant Professor at the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies, will be the Sept. 2 speaker at the same time and lcoation. He will speak on the topic, “The Broad Highway of Recovery: A Well-Worn Path.”
The journey of recovery from addiction usefully starts out as a small path leading out of the darkness of despair and desperation to what Alcoholics Anonymous has called “the Broad Highway” of recovery.
