MINNEAPOLIS — Hennepin County Library’s “Tet: Vietnamese New Year 2013” programs was presented Jan. 26 through Feb. 3 at six libraries.
The celebrations kicked off the Year of the Snake and offered area residents an opportunity to learn about the biggest and most popular festival of the year in Vietnam. They learned unicorn moves and enjoyed drumming to drive off bad luck, listened to zodiac tales, watched and danced along with a cultural dance group and enjoyed a martial arts demonstration.
Performers were Hoang Anh Dance Group, Anh Ha Kieu Nguyen performing on a suspended bamboo xylophone, Asian Storytellers Alliance, and a martial arts demonstration by Hua Truong and Mac Le.
The programs were presented in collaboration with Hung Vuong Association of Minnesota and funded by Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. They were also presented at the Augsburg Park (Richfield), Sumner, Southdale (Edina), Brooklyn Park, Minneapolis Central, and Ridgedale (Minnetonka) libraries.
