ST. PAUL (Sept. 1, 2013) — A Saint Paul man is dead and another in custody following an early morning confrontation that culminated in a fatal shooting.
Officers were called to the 1400 block of York Avenue just after 3 a.m. on a report of shots fired. When they arrived they found a victim fatally wounded. He died at the scene.
Investigators later arrested the suspect in the death at the scene of the shooting and without incident. He has been identified as Aloeng Vang, 19 of Saint Paul. Police are not seeking any others in connection with the shooting at this time. A booking photo of Vang is not being made available at this time.
Investigators are not at this time elaborating on details of what prompted the initial altercation. It is expected that investigators will present a case against Vang to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges in the coming days.
While investigators have preliminary information regarding the victim’s identification, they will be working with partners at the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify before releasing it Monday, at the earliest.
No other information is available at this time. In the event that additional information surfaces or if a booking photo of Vang becomes available, that information will first be publicized through the Saint Paul Police Department’s Twitter account, @sppdpio.
