Audition Notice for “Confessions of a Lazy Hmong Woman”
0Producers are seeking talented performers of all experience levels for Playwright and Performer May Lee-Yang’s production of “Confessions of a Lazy Hmong Woman.”
Auditions will be held Sat. Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wed. Sept. 28, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sun Ray Library, 2105 Wilson Ave, St. Paul, MN 55119. The production is calling for four female roles and one male role in the age 16 and over. Parental consent is required for cast under the age of 18.
Audition slots will be 10 to 15 minutes per person. Any level of performance experience welcomed. The only requirement is the ability to understand and speak basic Hmong language.
An audition script will be provided. There will no need for memorized monologues, resumes or photos needed. Actors will select a monologue and be prepared to work the “Dating” scene dialogue. Memorization is not needed and there will be some improvisational work involving different scenarios.
For the audition, actors should wear clothes that they can move around easily with to perform scenes or monologues.
Rehearsals for the production will run from October through December 2011, and will be held weekdays nights after 5 p.m. and some weekends. Rehearsals will average 10 to 20 hours per week and adjust to the holiday season. Performances will run for three weekends in January 2012.

Confessions of a Lazy Hmong Woman –The Hmong Remix is a from Lazy Hmong Woman Productions, and received a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Access Grant to create a Hmong language version of the show. This project will provide five aspiring Hmong actors with the opportunity to get training in performance work and perform in the show to be mounted in December 2011.
