NEW YORK — Saturday, July 20, 2013 marks the 14th year since the persecution of Falun
Dafa (also known as Falun Dafa) was launched in China.
Falun Dafa is a traditional Chinese practice of meditation and spiritual self-improvement. The core teaching principles are Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.
Falun Dafa was introduced to the public in 1992 and quickly became very popular. People from all walks of life were practicing including high ranking government and military officials and the government announced the number of people who practice Falun Dafa exceeded the community party members.
In 1999 then Chinese President Jiang Zemin decided to eradicate Falun Dafa. Tens of millions of people peacefully practicing Falun Dafa were labeled as criminals. A massive and unprecedented slander campaign began under China’s systematic state control.
Reports of extreme torture, abuse and murder have been compiled ever since.
Governments and NGOs around the world have taken steps to document the human rights abuses suffered by Falun Dafa practitioners. The U.S. Department of State has highlighted the persecution of Falun Dafa in its annual reports, as have other countries. Two resolutions condemning the persecution have been passed in Congress and others have been passed in European parliaments.
Amnesty International and other human rights organizations have issued urgent appeals for Falun Dafa practitioners and have helped document the persecution. The U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture has repeatedly queried the Chinese authorities on this issue and has stated that Falun Dafa practitioners comprise the majority of torture victims in China.
In 2006, allegations began to surface that China’s organ transplant industry was being supplied with the organs of Falun Dafa practitioners, the largest group of prisoners of conscience in China today. In the same year, University of Minnesota’s Dr. Kirk Allison :Human Rights and Health Director, testified at the first US congressional Hearing on allegations on CCP’s Organ Harvesting from Living Falun Dafa Practitioners.
In 2012, members of U.S. Congress Urge State Department to Release Information on Organ Harvesting. 106 representatives signed bi-partisan letter asking for details given byWang Lijun former chief of the Jinzhou Police Department and former Chongqing deputy mayor when he fled to the US Consulate in Chengdu.
On Sep. 12, 2012 there was Hearing in House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding Organ Harvesting of Religious and Political Dissidents by the Chinese Communist Party State Department 2011 Country Human Rights Report (released in May 2012).
Excerpts mentioning Organ Harvesting from Falun Dafa practitioners.
In 2010, Bloody Harvest was published by former Canadian Parliament member David Kilgour and International human rights lawyer David Matas.
In 2012 a new book State Organs: Transplant Abuse in China edited by David Matas and Dr. Torsten Trey was published. International responses have been taking places.
Israel passed a new organ transplant law to prevent Israeli citizens from going China for organ transplantation in 2008. The Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand decided to accept new membership applications from Chinese surgeons only if they sign a document promising to never use organs from prisoners for transplantations in China. Canadian parliament introduced a bill to ban Canadians from receiving organs taken from unwilling victims in February 2008.
On June 27th this year House Resolution 281 was introduced by Rep. Ileana Ros- Lehtinen (R-FL) and Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ). Also Minnesota House Resolution4, was introduced by Rep. Phyllis Kahn and Co-authored by Reps Linda Lunbeck and Andrea Kieffer.
As stated in both Resolutions American patients continue to travel to China for organ transplants and the American medical community continues the training of Chinese doctors. These resolutions will help our country’s doctors, patients, hospitals, and universities informed and make decisions regarding organ transplant abuse in China.
Since 2006 when the first allegations broke out many kind hearted Minnesotans singed for petitions hoping to stop Forced Organ harvesting from Falun Dafa practitioners and all other victims. I am originally from Japan and the forced organ harvesting in China reminds me of the 731 Unit: gruesome acts by both military and medical circles under the Japanese Imperial Army control during the Japanese aggression during WWII.
The past crime should be condemned and we must stop this present crime. We sincerely hope more Americans will stand up and speak for those without a voice. (For more information about Falun Gong and the on-going persecution, please visit faluninfo.net.)
Please contact your Minnesota state Representative and Your Minnesota congressperson and ask them to co-sponsor these two resolutions.
