MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 31, 2012) — This spring, the Minnesota Sinfonia is to hold their annual competition for string musicians up to age 21.
This includes violin, cello, bass and viola. The competition is divided into two categories, the Junior Division for musicians up to age 14 (born on or before Jan. 1, 1998) and the Senior Division for up to age 21 (born on or before Jan. 1, 1991).
The winner of the Senior Division will be awarded the Claire Givens Violins cash prize of $500 as well as a solo appearance with the full Minnesota Sinfonia orchestra at their Summer Youth Outreach Concert to be held at Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis in July of 2012. The Junior Division winner will be granted a solo with the full Minnesota Sinfonia orchestra at this year’s Holiday Concert in December of 2012 to be performed in both St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Participants are welcome to apply if they are residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa or Wisconsin. This year’s competition will be held on March 25, 2012 at 12 pm at St. Thomas University in St. Paul. The entry deadline is March 14, 2012.
