MINNEAPOLIS — The Japan America Society of Minnesota is happy to announce the 16th Annual Mondale Award and Scholarship Dinner Gala on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Oak Ridge Country Club, 700 Oak Ridge Road, Hopkins, MN 55305. The time of the event will be announced in the near future.
This is an important event held every fall, where former Vice President and Ambassador to Japan, Walter Mondale, joins JASM and guests to present scholarships and encourage programs linking Japan and Minnesota.
This year’s event is expected to draw over 175 corporate and individual members and community leaders. Proceeds from this fundraising event will enable JASM to continue to offer fascinating social and educational programs that promote cultural exchange between Minnesota and Japan, including the merit-based Mondale Scholarhsip.
The keynote speaker will be Marc Knapper, Director of the U.S. Department of State Office of Japanese Affairs. Additional highlights include:
Presentation by former Vice President Walter Mondale of the Mondale Award for Japan – Minnesota Partnership.
Knapper served in Japan with Ambassador Walter Mondale. As a diplomat, Mr. Knapper served in Tokyo, Hanoi, Seoul, and prior to his current post he served as Policical Counselor of United State Embassy of Baghdad.
The Mondale Scholarship will be announced for two Minnesota students for study in Japan.
A Silent Auction will be held during the reception and cocktail hour. A Raffle and Live Auction will be held during the dinner.
