MINNEAPOLIS (Nov. 13, 2013) — The Minneapolis Board of Education yesterday voted to appoint Mohamud Noor to represent District 3 in a seat left vacant after the death of Board Director Hussein Samatar in August. Noor was appointed by a 5-3 majority vote.
Noor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Metropolitan State University. He has worked at the Minnesota Department of Human Services since 2007 and is the executive director of the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota.
After his appointment, Noor said, “I feel honored and humbled. I look forward to working with the board, superintendent, administration, parents, students and teachers to make sure that we have the highest quality of education in our city.”
Noor will be sworn in at the Dec. 10 board meeting and will serve out the remainder of Samatar’s term, which ends in January 2015. Noor will be eligible to seek re-election.
