Hey middle schoolers in the Osseo School District (279)! Show us your writing style and tell us what you know about other kids in the world! The Brooklyn Park Human Rights Commission is sponsoring an essay contest and you could win a way cool prize! Here’s what we want you to write about:
What are some things in the United States that might not be available to kids in other countries? What are some things American kids take for granted?
Before you start writing, you need to find out more about the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United States Bill of Rights or the Minnesota Human Rights Act. Make sure you talk about one of these documents in your essay.
Brooklyn Park sixth, seventh and eighth graders are eligible to participate. Essays can be between one and four pages long and all submissions are due by February 14, 2012. You can give your essay to your teacher.
There will be three cash prizes ($75, $50 and $25) and one honorable mention award.
All the contest rules are distributed to District 279 junior high schools. Contact your principal or teacher or Jessica Gorski at 612-597-6828 to find out more information.
