MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 28, 2016) — The Advocates for Human Rights presents the two-day training series “Discover Human Rights: A Human Rights Approach to Social Justice from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 and Friday April 22, 2016. Both events are held at 330 Second Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55401.
A growing segment of advocates and activists are turning to human rights to secure social, political, and economic objectives that they have sought for decades. Human rights help ensure more participatory and sustainable solutions to social justice issues, provide common standards against which to measure the shortcomings of domestic policies, reframe social justice issues as human rights violations, expand the circle of allies to the larger global human rights community, and enhance accountability beyond the U.S. justice or political systems.
The Discover Human Rights training series by The Advocates for Human Rights provides concrete steps for how organizations and individuals can use the standards, principles, and methods of human rights to combat entrenched poverty, discrimination, and injustice in their community. Participants will analyze situations from their own experiences and evaluate how applying a human rights framework would change their approach to solving problems. Using tools such as organizational assessments, case studies, and implementation models, participants will create an action plan for incorporating human rights in their work. Download flyer here.
