Germantown, MD (January 3, 2011) – “In a free society, we are supposed to know the truth. In a society where truth becomes treason, we are in big trouble.” (Rep. Ron Paul, R-TX) What we need is more Wikileaks about the Federal Reserve.
Amy Goodman of Democracy Now put it succinctly when she raised questions on what is going on. What happened to “presumed innocent until proven guilty?” Whatever you think of Wikileaks, they have not been charged with a crime, let alone indicted or convicted. But look what has happened to them. They have been removed from the Internet… their funds frozen… media figures and politicians have called for their assassination and to be labeled a terrorist organization.
This country should be grateful for Wikileaks. The government has been taken hostage by an oligarchy that uses the President and Congress as a front, while using the military and the CIA to plunder the world. It will take all the courage we can muster to rise up and challenge these international criminals. Those who challenge the elite must be struck down. Its minions are not allowed to speak up, express themselves, much less, criticize the power structure. Verboten! Disallowed! And we still call this government a democracy?
For years we have been at war against this nation or that nation for some of the most laughable and cacaminy reasons which should never have happened in the first place. Our leaders, our politicians have betrayed us in similar ways so that the people were not allowed to find the truth. The countries of the world need more Julian Assanges so that we get the benefit of the truth and not be saturated indiscriminately with just lies and “questionable” good news.
Julian Assange did not hack into anything. In fact, no one hacked into anything. He was the recipient of information downloaded by an American citizen who had legal access to the information, if not the right to disseminate it to anyone else. It is illegal to classify materials for political reasons. We know who is the criminal. Some people want to know BHO’s recent discussions with Republicans when he gave away all the help we need for the middles class. We need a transcript of the ugly dealings revealed immediately.
For the past 100 yeas or so, our so-called leaders have treated us like mushrooms. They keep us in the dark and feed us shit. They give us a rosy picture about how America is trying to help other nations around the world. The truth is we have been taking advantage of their resources for the benefit of our corporations. Remember the mumbling liar who preceded BHO in the presidency? He said people around the world hated us because of our freedom and democracy. Have you ever heard such garbage? The real reason they hate us is because our foreign policy is the seedbed of hypocrisy.
We have become a country that is lost in the dark. The constant attack on free speech (we didn’t want to be criticized in a public forum) and freedom within and without its land. It’s laughable that the American government has the insolence to condemn China for stifling free speech! Talking about the pot calling the kettle black! The US- instigated manhandling of Julian Assange has shocked many people around the world and made the US the butt of insulting jokes. There should have been no need for a Wikileaks in the Obama administration, but he is as secretive, if not more so than GWB.
Democratic societies need a strong media, and Wikileaks is part of that media. The media helps keep governments honest. Wikileaks has revealed some bad troops in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and broken stories about corporate corruption. It’s not a case of being pro-war or anti-war. Sometimes nations need to go to war, and those are just wars. There is nothing more wrong than a government lying to its people about those wars, then asking those same citizens to put their lives and their taxes on the line for those lies. If a war is justified, then tell the truth and the people will decide whether or not to support it.
Wikileaks is not the only publisher of US embassy cables. Other media outlets that have published the same redacted cables include UK’s The Guardian, New York Times, El Pais in Spain and Der Spiegel in Germany. Assange was accused of treason even though he is Australian and not American. There have been dozens of serious calls in the US that he be taken out by Special Forces. Sara Palin said that he should be hunted down like Osama bin Laden. Republicans passed a bill before the US Senate to have him declared a “transnational threat” and disposed of accordingly. An American blogger has called for his 20-year son in Australia to be kidnapped and harmed for no other reason than to get at him. These suggestions/proposals can only come from rogue people of a rogue nation who are using Taliban tactics!
We need to remember something – “it’s not just a war on Wikileaks.” It’s a war on all of us who believe in the concept of truth vs. power. Tyrants, dictators and presidents and the empires they preside over have used “secrecy” as perhaps the most vital tool in their arsenal of mass deception. This is really an “us versus them” moment. How it plays out may determine freedom or tyranny, death or life. This “leak” has obviously created a “puddle” the boots of power brokers are desperate to avoid. What they do will tell us a lot about where we’ve been and more importantly, where we’re going. The lid is off. Time to dump the whole bucket!
Swedish police are thorough, modern and professional. They are no idiots. If thousands of Swedish men get accused and the cases get dropped because there is nothing to pursue them, could it be bacue there is nothing there? The accusations are typically false. Thousands of men get falsely accused of rape every year in Sweden, that’s why the government drops the majority of them; they ae bogus. The women face zero punishment for making false accusations. Zero! That’s why the flood continues. The press is dead quite about the Assange case and there is no discussion about what’s goig on. The media and government are close friends in a dictatorial way. Critical voices against Sweden from other countries do not come up in the news.
Jus as Daniel Ellsberg, by his release of the Pentagon Paper, saved lives and led to the end of an illegal war. Julian Assange is a hero of the same caliber and his revelations should open the eyes of people of all nations who believe the US activities in Iraq and Afghanistan are not only illegal but immoral as well. The US embassies reacted in a manner once reserved for Communist regimes. A free and open press is part of our Constitution. Only a free and unrestricted press can effectively expose deception in government. Governments hate transparency, but it is essential to protect our freedom and rights. As Third Reich propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels once said, “Truth is the enemy of the state.” If Assange goes down, two more will spring up in his place. There is no real life outside of the truth. We are all cowards if allow Assange to be slaughtered on the scaffold of truth.
If the US media had done its job, there wouldn’t have been a need for Wikileaks. Without truth, society is sick. We are all sick from LIES that have been told by those in power through their “bought-and-paid for” mainstream media. Rupert Murdock plays a big part in this web of lies. Shame on those politicians from all countries who are using Julian Assange as a scapegoat to their hurt feeling for their insanities and stupidities and horrible acts of murder around the world! What goes around essentially comes around. Karma is real.
Turning Julian Assange in to the US would be a despicable offense and an act of political submissiveness. Secrecy is America’s enemy, not Julian Assange. The definition of a hero is someone who willingly puts his own welfare on the line for the good of someone else. Assange put his life and livelihood at risk to advance journalism and make the world a better place. He should be treated with the same respect as any other hero, not arrested and branded as a criminal. The powerful and the rich seem to control the planet and are destroying it. The average person is bombarded by propaganda and doesn’t know what’s really going on. Only truth tellers like Assange can save us and the planet.
It is outrageous for any journalist or a respecter of what any American president has claimed is inalienable, God-given right to a free press, not to join in Assange’s defense on the Wikileaks issue. Wikileaks is part of an awakening consciousness of “the people” about what governments do with their ability to keep everything secret. Keep shining the light on the corrupt politicians and the systems that produce evil and death for so many. Do not allow Assange to be pursued on phony charges when the real agenda is to stop the flow of Wikileaks information regarding corrupt governments (the information is needed to help end wireless illegal wars, bring criminals to trial, inter alia). I’m hopeful we are not going to take it anymore.
