WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 4, 2014) — The Organization of Chinese Americans, Asian Pacific American Advocates, a national membership-driven organization of community advocates dedicated to advancing the political, social, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), applauds the Senate’s confirmation of Chris Lu as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Labor.

On Wednesday, April 1, Chris Lu was confirmed by the United States Senate as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Labor. Secretary Lu is the first Asian American to be appointed to Deputy Secretary of the Department of Labor and is its highest ranking APA official. The department oversees occupational safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, re-employment services, and some economic statistics.

Sharon M. Wong, OCA President remarked, “Secretary Lu has a strong commitment to the progress of all communities. He has been a staunch advocate of the Asian Pacific American community and is an outstanding choice for deputy secretary of labor. We look forward to working closely with Secretary Lu to improve the livelihood of all communities.”
