MINNETONKA (Feb. 2, 2013) — The Vietnamese Community of Minnesota held its annual Tet Lunar New Year celebration at Minnetonka High School on February 2.
Mr. Hieu Tu, President of Vietnamese Community of Minnesota and also Chair of Lunar New Year Organizing Committee, said the event was well prepared with many different tasks from organizing techniques to food supplies and community booths of non- profit organization and profit companies.
“ Even though there was snow and some very cold weather, there were many people who showed up, and therefore it shows the high degree of love for the New Year celebration,” Tu said.
The event started with ceremony and a program in the school auditorium at 12:30 p.m. There was a full afternoon of activity including the National Anthems of USA and the Republic of Vietnam, Dragon Dances, Lucky Donations, Talent shows and Musical entertainment. Of course, the live entertainment and a day of juding the Ao dai beauty contest is popular as well, leading to seven final contestants.
The winners were Miss Trinh Nguyen, with Miss Heather Huynh as runner-up, and Miss Catalina Nguyen as second runner-up.
The musical performances and the Dance Festival in the Cafeteria was led by Mr. Tu Quoc who served as Master of Ceremony. The entertainment this year included two famous singers from California, Mr. Luu Viet Hung and Miss Le Thanh Thanh.
There were also many local singers including Mr. The Vinh who contribute to the event. After a long year working, Everyone has a good celebration.
