ST. PAUL (June 5, 2013) — Noel Nix, the current legislative aid to Saint Paul Ward 1 Councilmember Melvin Carter III, launched his campaign for Saint Paul City Council on Saturday. Nix’s announcement focused on his roots in housing and economic development, deep commitment to Ward 1, and his collaborative vision for moving the community forward.
At a launch event as Golden Thyme Coffee on Selby Ave., Nix spoke to over 50 supporters, “I’m running, because I believe that everyone deserves the dignity of quality housing, a decent wage, and a neighborhood they’re proud to call home. We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen what we love about our neighborhoods and tackle the challenges that are holding too many of our families back.”
Also speaking at the launch event was Campaign Chair and Ramsey County Commissioner Toni Carter, “Noel is not only energetic and enthusiastic but also effective. Knowing his passion and commitment for Ward 1, I am excited to support him as our next St. Paul City Councilmember.”
With the launch event, Nix embarks on a campaign dedicated to bringing more voices into the political process. He asked his supporters to work hard to help win the campaign so together they can keep moving the community forward.
During his tenure with the Ward 1 office, Nix has led the community forward on critical issues including coordinating with the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood and focusing on economic development along University and Selby Avenue. Previously, Nix has held positions at the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers, Seward Redesign, and Aeon.
He and his wife, Theresa, live in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood where they are active with the Frogtown-based Saint Paul City School, Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and Minneapolis Technical and Community College. He holds an undergraduate degree in business from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and a masters in urban planning from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
