Mayor Chris Coleman joined members of the Saint Paul Midway Chamber and local residents last week for “Lunch on the Avenue” at Fortune Wok in Saint Paul. Lunch on the Avenue and Brew on the Avenue are efforts organized by the Midway Chamber to promote Central Corridor businesses. The series encourages its participants to eat and drink at specific locally-owned University Avenue restaurants every other week.
“The most important way we can support businesses during Central Corridor construction is to visit them,” Mayor Coleman said. “This program brings us together to celebrate our businesses during the transformation of one of the main arteries of our city.”
While the Midway Chamber initiated these programs, these series have become a part of the wider grassroots marketing effort to help the Central Corridor businesses. Organizer John Schwietz, a Midway Chamber Volunteer Ambassador, has worked to arrange these events since their inception in July of 2010.
“All the credit goes to the patrons who are rallying for University Avenue. We’ve seen hundreds of folks navigate the orange cones to get to Lunch on the Avenue,” Schwietz said. “More importantly, restaurant owners are finding that the new faces they meet at ‘lunch’ are becoming familiar over time.”
Lunch on the Avenue runs every other Thursday from 12-1 P.M. at various restaurants on University Avenue. A complete schedule can be found on the Lunch on the Avenue Facebook Page or at www.midwaychamber.com.
