The Travelers Art Exhibit of Hmong American Artistswill kick off with an RSVP only Opening Reception on Friday, July 26th, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Chaos Art Gallery & Studio, 2242 University Ave. W. Suite 150, St. Paul, Minnesota 55114.
This first show from Chaos Art Gallery & Studio features the works of talented Hmong-American Artists and showcases a variety of ways Art has evolved for Hmong-Americans as well as analyzing the elements that has brought it here.
Participating artists include Mai C. O’Brion, Seexeng Lee, Kao Lee Thao, Paj Huab Hawj, Sieng Lee, Xee Reiter, Laichee Yang, and Oskar Ly with Cam Xiong and Karen Nou Yang.
The artists will be on hand for questions and to discuss their work.
Mai C. O’Brion (Vang) explores the surreal landscape with an impressionist and modern fable bent.
Seexeng Lee uses gold-leaf, symbolic images. He studies dual culture as both a teacher and experienced multimedia artist.
Kao Lee Thao, a painter, graphic artist and 3-D animator, blends the line with her sharply sweet figures with underlining darkness.
Paj Huab Hawj, who with her MFA in Photography from Yale uses unflinchingly stark photography to depict her own visions of the world.
Sieng Lee is currently working on his MFA at MCAD and is exploring graphic design and minimalism.
Xee Reiter is a freelance artist and photographer with work extending to her life.
Txong Moua is a jewelry designer with a strong connection to her Hmong roots.
Laichee Yang is an undergrad in Fine Arts at UMN who works on constructing time sensitive assemblages that uses technology and classic art.
Oskar Ly, a French-American-Hmong artist who excels in Fashion Art Designer, fusing couture and Hmong culture as Os.Couture as well as displaying impressive musical chops as a singer and songwriter.
