(December 6, 2011) — Earlier today, the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) called on local authorities to initiate a hate crime investigation into the stabbing of a Sikh man at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011.

BROOKLYN CENTER, MN, September 17, 2011—ISAIAH held a 300-person public meeting focused on the leadership needed to address both the racial equity gap in educational achievement and to create racially equitable schools. Joining ISAIAH was Minnesota Commissioner of Education Dr. Brenda Cassellius and superintendents or their representatives from 11 Minnesota urban, suburban, and Greater Minnesota school districts.
The yawning gap in educational outcomes in Minnesota between white children and children of color is one of the most alarming challenges of our time. One in three Minnesotans under the age of 18 is a person of color. With only about 40% of African-American and Latino children graduating from high school, our state is headed into a bleak future.

Jersey City, NJ (August 1, 2011) — Over 70 community members gathered for a July 30 hearing called “South Asians in New Jersey: Ten Years After 9/11″ to reflect on the decade since the 9/11 tragedy, and to provide recommendations for moving forward. The hearing, held in Jersey City, New Jersey, was organized by South Asian Americans Leading Together, a national nonprofit organization, as part of its campaign – An America for All of Us – to mark the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

St. Paul, MN – Community Action Against Racism (CAAR), originally founded in 1998 in the wake of racist content broadcast about the Hmong community on KQRS radio, is organizing and hosting a community meeting about a parody song about Hmong people was aired on KDWB last month. The meeting will be on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the office of the St. Paul Federation of Teachers, located at 400 Selby Ave. #A in St. Paul.

With national rights groups joining the Hmong community’s outrage over racist remarks from a morning radio show, and more corporate advertisers pulling from the radio station KDWB, it has now issued third apology and agreed to meet with leaders about the issue.
