MINNEAPOLIS (August 21, 2010) – Korean Adoptees Ministry celebrated a “Decade of Making Deep Connections” with a gala fundraising event last weekend at Ramada Plaza. KAM, a nonprofit organization is based in Roseville and has served as a resource for adoptees and their families.

Hoover Institution offers rare, historical documents to Korea

Recovered missing documents revealing long-held secrets are usually the basis of suspense novels. A copy of the Hoover Institution’s Japan Koshikan (Korea) records, however, may be a case of truth proving stranger than fiction. A microfilm copy of the Koshikan collection was presented to Seong Choon Lee, director general for the Veterans’ Policy Bureau in the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, during his visit to the Hoover Institution Library and Archives on Wednesday, July 28, 2010.

St. Paul, Minn. (July 19, 2010) – Since the Korean War (1950–53), more than 200,000 Korean children have been sent away to western countries for adoption. Thousands have returned to Korea to visit, work or study. Many are also searching for answers about their past. That’s where Sarah Park, assistant professor of library and information science at St. Catherine University, comes in.

Los Angeles (July 30, 2010) – The University of California at Los Angeles’ Asian American Studies Center (aasc.ucla.edu) announced Friday, that UCLA Professor Jerry Kang is appointed the inaugural holder of the Korea Times-Hankook Ilbo Chair in Korean American studies. Professor Kang, considered an influential scholar of law and Asian American studies, teaching at the UCLA School of Law since 1995, becomes the first endowed chair of what is called the first of its type in the nation.

Judge Lucy H. Koh was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as U.S. District Court Judge for the Greater Bay Area of California.

Washington, D.C. (June 7, 2010) – The U.S. Senate on Monday unanimously confirmed The Honorable Lucy H. Koh to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, making her the first Korean American U.S. District Court Judge in United States history and the first Asian Pacific American Article III judge in the 160-year history of the Northern District of California.
